
Patricia Cervantes of Ciudad Chihuahua, Chihuahua, giving testimony at the popular tribunal of the World March of Women
The march/caravan titled “For the Life and Security of Women,” coordinated by the Mexican section of the World March of Women, arrived at San Cristóbal de las Casas December 1. The caravan was made up of 100 women from all over Mexico who participated in the 7 day tour of the country which started in Ciuada Juárez, Chihuahua on November 24.
On December 1, the caravan was received at the Cathedral Plaza in San Cristóbal with a rally and indigenous ceremony. That afternoon, a popular tribunal was organized to hear the testimony of victims of violence against women. In particular the issue of feminicide was present in several of the women’s testimonies from the states of Chihuahua, Jalisco, Estado de México, Veracruz y Chiapas.
The following day the women marched from the Municipal Administration Building in San Cristóbal de las Casas in a demonstration that concluded in the Cathedral Plaza.
