In observation of the monthly commemoration of the December 1997 Acteal massacre, the Las Abejas Civil Society on 22 June published a communiqué criticizing all political parties and their campaign promises: “…And with this activity of electoral campaigning, the parties cause all the attention of Mexican spectators to be focused on the elections, such that the repression, aggression, murder, and unjust incarceration ordered by present governments not be perceived by the citizenry, thus leading it to believe that nothing is going on and that in Mexico peace, democracy, and tranquility for the whole country reign.”
Regardless, Las Abejas stress as well that “Regardless, we exist who have large hearts, clear consciences, who look toward the horizon and focus on free thought, we ‘Las Abejas.’ They cannot crush us with their words, and we say that this period of elections is a time and space of blatant corruption, lies, deception, exploitation, and national debt, which exacerbates extreme poverty and the inhuman conditions of exclusion, alienation, racism, discrimination, and the extermination carried out by the Mexican Army against indigenous peoples.”
