Chiapas: Communiqué by the Civil Society Las Abejas distances itself from Las Abejas Chiapas

On 28 April, the Civil Society Las Abejas of Acteal published a communiqué in which it distanced itself from the group “Las Abejas Chiapas,” noting that “This time, our communiqué will discuss the consequences of the counterinsurgency policies of the bad governments (state and federal) that cause and provoke in our organization and struggle Las Abejas […].  Our denunciation and rejection on this occasion has to do with a ‘march-protest’ carried out by a group calling itself ‘Las Abejas Organization, A.C.’ from Nuevo Yibeljoj on 26 April.  We feel we are obligated to distance ourselves from the action taken by this ‘group,’ because it has generated confusion regarding our organization ‘Las Abejas’ in our region.  To begin, we automatically clarify that this ‘group’ has nothing to do with our organization, and we say that they are not ‘Las Abejas’ as they call themselves.  To the public in general and to the comrades in solidarity with our cause, we would not like to leave this confusion without detailing who these people are why they use the name ‘Las Abejas.'”

On 26 April, Las Abejas Chiapas carried out a protest to denounce the lack of attention given them by the mayor’s office of Chenalhó.  This march began in Nuevo Yibeljoj toward the capital of the state, Tuxtla Gutiérrez.  They released a bulletin in which they denounce rights-violations of the indigenous peoples of their municipality, given the “lack of attention by the prosecutor’s office to indigenous justice,” which, they say, “favors criminals.”
