On 14 December, members of the Front of Ejidos in Resistance from Cintalapa and Busiljá, municipalities of Ocosingo, and adherents to the Other Campaign initiated a sit-in at the Cathedral Plaza in the city of San Cristóbal to demand the release of the prisoners Elías Sánchez Gómez (Busiljá) and Almilcar Méndez Núñez (Cintalapa), who are being held in the Cereso no. 17 in Playas de Catazajá, as well as the presentation with life of hte child Gabriela Sánchez Morales, age 8, who was taken last July.
Nine days after having established the sit-in, the protestors announced in a press-conference that they had not received a concrete respond to their demands on the part of the authorities. They also expressed their solidarity with Las Abejas of Acteal and demanded a halt to the persecution of members of the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity (MPJD) as well as punishment for the material and intellectual authors of the murder of the two students in Guerrero.
