The general assembly of the Ikoots people of San Dionisio del Mar, in a communiqué written jointly with the Assembly of the Indigenous Peoples of the Tehuantepec Isthmus in Defense of the Land and Territory, denounced on 26 August that “the Mareña consortium […] seeks to install its wind-parj called San Dionisio and Isthmine, despite its rejection byt he Ikoots people of San Dionisio,” reporting that the firm has “invaded our territory, marked the highway they plan to construct to introduce the machinery and begin building, while our people has shown in its general assembly that it is not in favor of this park.” In the denunciation, they indicate that the firm threatened to enter the zone so as to install “102 wind generators, 2 electrical substations, and 5 other devices that will make 266 revolutions each day, powered by diesel, thus totally affecting the marine ecosystem, which is considered by the National Commission on Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO) as a priority region due to its high biodiversity.” This project has not been one that has been shared or consulted with local peoples, according to the denunciation.
The same community on 5 September denounced that a “rigged” assembly was held to give permission to Mareña to work in the territory; the assembly was attended by 60 of the 1,027 communards of San Dionisio del Mar. In the relevant communiqué, they detail that the assembly was organized by the unknown mayor and the present representative for communal resources, and that those who attended were PRI communards as well as others who are foreign to the community, representing the firm in question.
Lastly, there was made public an invitation to the “NATIONAL MEETING OF THE IKJOTS NATIONA IN RESISTANCE TO THE WIND MEGAPROJECT,” which is to celebrated on 14 and 15 September in San Dionisio del Mar.
