Chiapas: Denunciation of robbery of prisoners performed by police

Alberto Patishtán Gómez y Rosario Díaz Méndez, members of the Voz del Amate, together with those in solidarity with the Voz del Amate and Francisco Sántis López have denounced that police officers termed “wolves” on 16 January stole possessions and cash from prisoners during an extended search operation undertaken following the escape of two formerly incarcerated persons which occurred on the morning of that same day.  In a public denunciation they indicated that the police isolated them within the sports complex, stressing that “we are not always in opposition, as sometimes they respect our rights and individual liberties, but the saddest thing about it is that they only came to steal our possessions.”  Patishtán had a number of pens stolen from him, valued at 500 pesos, and another member of the Voz del Amate had a watch stolen which was valued at 120 pesos.

As was noted by La Jornada regarding the possible review of the case of Alberto Patishtán by the Supreme Court for Justice in the Nation (SCJN), Patishtán has noted that he still has not received any response.  “We continue to hope,” he said, using the plural to refer also to Rosario Díaz Méndez,  the other member of the Voz del Amate, who continues to see her case delayed by the judge in Simojovel.  It has now been clearly established that Díaz Méndez is innocent of the crime for which she has been imprisoned now for several years.
