On April 12th, nine nurses who were on hunger strike, some of them for ten days, ended it after reaching a series of agreements with the state government regarding their demands that included the payment of benefits, the reinstatement of 15 workers who were unjustifiably dismissed, and the supply of medicines. Nevertheless, they announced that they would maintain their sit-in in front of Rafael Pascasio Gamboa Hospital in Tuxtla Gutierrez until the government of Chiapas complies with the agreements that it subscribed to.

The previous day, the Fray Bartolome de Las Casas Center for Human Rights, (CDHFBC) said that it has documented the serious crisis in the health system in Chiapas, detailing in a statement “the lack of medicines, medical supplies, laboratory supplies, vaccines, healing material, instruments, medical equipment and maintenance; lack of a decent service to the population; effects on labor rights, payment of benefits; as well as denouncing the corruption and diversion of resources of the Secretariat of Health of the State, presided over by Francisco Ortega Farrera, directly responsible for the mismanagement.” It also denounced that the crisis of the health system in Chiapas is “a historical and structural problem, which has affected not only the workers in this sector, but especially the people who come to the hospitals and clinics of the state in search of health care, a situation that has been aggravated to the maximum, given that health workers cannot perform their work because they do not have the bare necessities to care for the population.”
