On November 19th, the offices of the Action Group for Human Rights and Social Justice (GADH in its Spanish acronym) were ransacked, as well as the Association for Human Rights Culture (ACCEDEH in its Spanish acronym), in the Narvarte neighborhood of Mexico City. Computer equipment, documents and records of various investigations for alleged violations of human rights were seized.
It is not the first time that these organizations suffer incidents of this type but they have already reported telephone threats, espionage attempts, and even other burglaries because of their work in defense of human rights. The director of GADH, Karla Micheel Salas Ramirez and the legal coordinator, David Peña Rodriguez, had a hacking attempt on their mobile phones in October 2015 through “Pegasus”, an espionage program allegedly acquired by the Mexican government. It should be mentioned that these organizations represent victims of various cases of human rights violations, including the murder of human rights defender Digna Ochoa y Placido, and the murders of defenders Bety Cariño and Jyri Jaakkola in Oaxaca (2010 ).
