Rafael Murua Manrique, director of the community radio station Radiokashana, was reported missing since January 19th, 2019 and his body was found the next day in Baja California Sur. He is the first journalist killed so far this year.

The governor of Baja California Sur, Carlos Mendoza Davis, condemned the murder of the communicator, and instructed the Attorney General’s Office (PGJ in its Spanish acronym) to exhaust all lines of investigation to clarify the fact.

After the disappearance of the 34-year-old journalist, originally from Santa Rosalia, the organization Articulo 19 demanded that the authorities “carry out a diligent and exhaustive investigation of the facts, as well as the complete and efficient activation of the search and location protocols, along with the implementation of the Federal Mechanism for the Protection of Journalists.”

For its part, the group Foot Journalists (Periodistas de a pie) warned that the victim had received threats.
