National/International: CNI Mobilizations for Global Day of Struggle in Defense of Life and our Territories – “SAMIR FLORES LIVES”

CNI

On October 12th, “Day of Indigenous, Black and Popular Resistance”, the National Indigenous Congress (CNI), the Indigenous Government Council (CIG) and adherents to the Sixth, Resistance and Rebellion Networks in addition to other organizations and groups, called for a dislocated mobilization to be held in Mexico and the world within the framework of the Global Day of struggle In Defense of Life and Our Territories – “SAMIR FLORES VIVE” and in solidarity with the Kurdish People and the Indigenous and Popular Movement from Ecuador. It should be remembered that Samir Flores Soberanes, an indigenous defender who opposed the Morelos Integral Project (PIM in its Spanish acronym) was murdered on February 20th this year.

In total, 56 activities were carried out in 18 states in Mexico and in eight countries, 527 years after the arrival of the Spaniards in the Americas, all of them in the logic of denunciation of “the megaprojects of death, of an anti-capitalist and anti-patriarchal character.” The actions included marches, documentary screenings, forums, reflection tables as well as cultural and artistic activities.

On another, at this time Maria de Jesus Patricio, Marichuy, a former presidential candidate for the CNI, was touring Basque and Spanish cities where she denounced “the real situation of our indigenous peoples, (…). We want to know that there are many dead, there are disappeared, there are attacks against our people who organize to defend their territory. We are living in a state of war declared on the people for wanting to introduce the megaprojects that will only bring territorial destruction to entire towns and communities. It is a dispossession carried out by the government through the repressive forces, such as the Army, the police, but also the narco groups that surrender to the interests of the companies. (…) It is a lie about change. The change for the people went backwards. Also making consultations in the villages, simulated and rigged, in which it offers support, gifts, to condition the outcome of the consultation.”
