On July 12, the National Indigenous Congress (CNI) published a statement from the indigenous peoples and communities of the Costa Chica, Costa Montaña, Montaña Alta and Montaña Baja regions of Guerrero, which make up the Indigenous and Popular Council of Guerrero – Emiliano Zapata ( CIPOG-EZ), in which they denounced the injustices and armed attacks, even deaths, that the promoters and communities of the CIPOG-EZ, CNI and CIG (Indigenous Government Council) face.
Despite the promises of the Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) government to provide security, violent acts continue to occur: “The promises of the AMLO government through its representative Alejandro Encinas were useless, the fire again rocked the lands of Chilapa in the hands of the narco-paramilitary group “Los Ardillos”, which we have denounced so many times and will continue to denounce. “
They reported that on July 11, 100 members of this armed group opened fire on the community of Tula, municipality of Chilapa de Álvarez, and that for three hours several houses and pens were destroyed while the inhabitants had to flee to save their lives. Fortunately, no one died on that occasion, they declared.
They stated that the government already knows what happened but has done nothing. They stressed that “the events occurred just two kilometers from the permanent base of the National Guard, who listened to the more than three hours of shooting, doing absolutely nothing. Said base was placed as part of the security measures to which the government committed itself ”.
They demanded that the right to life of the peoples, promoters and members of the CIPOG-EZ be guaranteed, that the armed group in the area be dismantled and that “the Federal, State and Municipal governments” stop “being complicit by action or omission. of this barbarism against our peoples”.
