On January 15th, the Secretariat of Health (SSa) of the state of Chiapas updated the Epidemiological Traffic Light due to COVID-19: it announced that it will return from Green Traffic Light (same that had been decreed in the state on November 23rd), to yellow, at least, until January 31st.
Since the beginning of the collection of information on the cases of Covid-19 the state of Chiapas has been questioned for its low figures “that do not add up”, both by teachers, social, political and religious leaders. On January 11th, the discussion “Green traffic light, who is lying to Chiapas?” was held, in which journalists announced that an investigation carried out based on information from private laboratories indicates that in Tuxtla Gutierrez alone the official figures would have to be multiplied by 20 to get closer to the reality of the situation.
On January 12th and 13th, the first 45 thousand vaccines arrived that will be applied as a priority to the medical personnel of the State Health Secretariat, the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) and the Social Security Institute for State Workers (ISSSTE), as well as members of SEDENA and SEMAR. It is part of the massive vaccination campaign against COVID-19, which last week involved the distribution of more than 400,000 vaccines in the country. However, there is still no knowledge as to when there will be enough vaccines for all medical personnel and less for the 127 million inhabitants of the country. In addition, on January 17th, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced that Mexico has agreed to reduce the delivery of Pfizer’s anti-COVID vaccines, at the request of the United Nations, so that they are distributed in poorer countries.
