On May 6th, the Zapatista Army of National Liberation published a communiqué entitled “ON THE SEA” in which it reports on the beginning of the trip to Europe by the Zapatista delegation Squadron 421. It announced that for the moment the ship “La Montaña” is in the Cuban port of Cienfuegos for a few days before continuing with his trip.
After leaving Isla Mujeres, Mexico, on May 2nd, Captain Ludwig decided the next day to anchor off the Cuban town called “María la Gorda” to repair an affected sail and wait for the wind to subside. The Stahlratte ship, renamed “La Montaña” by the Zapatistas, has sailed through the Mediterranean, the North Sea or the Baltic, and among other things it has provided services to Greenpeace. She was built in the Netherlands in 1903.
Although the boat is at rest at the moment, Squadron 421 reports that it “in its entirety, it is well and adapting. No “gummies” and only mild dizziness.”
“More than sailing, La Montaña seems to dance to the sea. As in a long and passionate kiss, she took off from the port and headed to an uncertain destination, full of challenges, threats and not a few setbacks … ”, says Insurgent Sub-commander Galeano in the communiqué.
