On June 15th, Julio Cesar Coctecon, commissioner of the community of Acatempa, municipality of Tixtla and also part of the Regional Coordinator of Community Authorities-Community Police (CRAC-PC), was murdered, who on that day was picked up by an armed group while he was working in his cornfield. His body appeared dismembered a few hours later in the El Fortin neighborhood, Tixtla.
Commissioner Julio Cesar Coctecon, a former political prisoner who had just left the Social Rehabilitation Center (CERESO) in Chilpancingo last January after having been deprived of his liberty for almost four years, was found outside the house where the promoter of the CRAC-PC and member of the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners, Gonzalo Molina Gonzalez lives. In February of this year, the latter denounced a robbery of the Community Police base in El Fortin, when he evidenced the complicity of the authorities with organized crime groups in the area.
On June 16th, the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners in Guerrero released a statement in which it blamed a criminal group for the murder of the commissioner. He denounced the harassment and several violent attacks against the defender Gonzalo Molina Gonzalez as well as violations of the rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Community Police. He also demanded that the corresponding authorities stop these harassments.
“The social context in which the communities and indigenous peoples currently live in the state of Guerrero is made up of enormous structural violence and profound social injustice. Human rights violations are a constant and its inhabitants have a feeling of total defenselessness and cyclical helplessness in matters of security and justice where impunity proliferates. The presence of organized crime working together with government authorities and corruption have become a systematic practice of life among the residents”, it noted.
