Miguel Angel Osorio Chong, current PRI coordinator in the Senate of the Republic, appeared on Monday, June 21st, before the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) over the Nochixtlan case, Oaxaca, a case that occurred on June 19th, 2016, when Operation Oaxaca was implemented to remove teachers from Section 22 of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) and parents who maintained a blockade in rejection of the educational reform promoted in the administration of Peña Nieto.

The events occurred when Osorio Chong was serving as Interior Secretary and culminated in the death of eight people and more than 200 wounded.

In addition to Chong, Enrique Peña Nieto, Enrique Francisco Galindo Cevallos, former Commissioner General of the Federal Police, and Gabino Cue Monteagudo, then governor of the state, have also been accused as intellectual authors. The latter appeared before the FGR on February 27th, 2020 together with the former National Security Commissioner, Renato Sales Heredia.

The Nochixtlan June 19th Committee of Victims for Justice and Truth (COVIC) complained about the government’s strategies to delay investigations and protect the political class, and commented that “they still need to summon former President Enrique Peña Nieto to complete the political and police chains of command.”

For its part, the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) stated that “there is still a serious lack of action that prevents the victims from accessing the truth, justice and reparation. These guarantees are the answer that would allow the clarification, investigation, prosecution and punishment of serious cases of human rights violations by government authorities.”
