On July 8th, hundreds of people welcomed the first Journey for Life delegation in Toulouse. The city called Tolosa in Occitan, has warmly welcomed the Zapatista delegation, with combative and loving words, music and songs, as well as painted banners and slogans in support of the struggles of the peoples in resistance.
A member of the host commission addressed Squad 421 with the following words: “We fight for a better future, worthy and desirable, breaking physical and mental boundaries, and the system that oppresses us. We will preserve on such urgent issues as the rights of undocumented people and refugees, feminisms, counterculture, education, environmental defense, social struggles, the Yellow Vest movement, the struggles against violence and state racism. Again, you are very welcome to Toulouse and to Europe. Long live the anti-capitalist, anti-racist and anti-patriarchal struggles!”
“The enemy wanted to bury us alive and forgot that we are seeds and we are here to germinate and plough new furrows, we are going through life, compañeros. Until life always!” the Zapatista compaMarijose declared.
On Saturday, July 10th, the Zapatistas arrived in the city of Montreuil, on the eastern shore of Paris. Between music and graphic arts, organizations and committees denounced in front of Squad 421 the dispossession of land, police violence, racism and inequalities in France.
“This year is historic, because of the visit of Squad 421 and because we commemorate the 150 years of the Paris Commune, not just 500 years of the fall of Tenochtitlan. There are no words to describe the happiness and emotion that we are feeling because the journey through the life of the Zapatistas goes beyond being an event, it is really already part of history”, said a member of the Yellow Vests.
