In recent days, the Civil Society Organization Las Abejas de Acteal denounced in a statement, the “negligence and zero willingness” of the Attorney General of the State of Chiapas who, 99 days after the murder of the human rights defender and member of the organization, Simon Pedro Perez, has not been able to clarify the case or do justice.
After the relatives of the defender accepted the exhumation despite it going against their culture, the Organization denounced that since August 13th, their lawyers from the Fray Bartolome de Las Casas Center for Human Rights CA (Frayba) presented the request for exhumation and autopsy of Simon Pedro that has not been carried out to date.
They also said that the Prosecutor’s Office has not collected other evidence that could help to clarify the crime nor have they followed a line of investigation “regarding the murder of our colleague and brother Simon Pedro, it was for his work in the promotion and defense of life and of Mother Earth.”
They demanded that the Chiapas State Prosecutor’s Office comply with its obligation and that the case of Simon Pedro not be taken as was done at the time with the Acteal Case by promoting the delay of justice for the victims and their families, giving the opportunity “to find ways to free the murderers of children and pregnant women massacred in Acteal on December 22nd, 1997.”
Finally, they called on all people to demand that the Prosecutor’s Office and the three levels of government “do their job and do not continue to cover up the murderers, while Chiapas bleeds from the violence.”
“We will not rest in acting until the crime of Simon Pedro is tried and not simulated”, they pointed out.
