National: Relatives of Disappeared Recreate Hidden Graves in Front of National Palace

@ Animal Politico

On December 13th, relatives of disappeared persons recreated hidden graves in the capital’s Zocalo to protest the impunity and lack of investigation in these cases and for President Lopez Obrador to recognize that disappearances, massacres and other human rights violations continue to be committed in the country during his term of office.

Some groups from the state of Guanajuato denounced the appearance of more than 170 clandestine graves in that state, but “zero responses” from the authorities. “If Andres Manuel does not go to the graves, the graves come to him”, was one of the protesters’ slogans.

They recalled when, last month, the UN gave recommendations to the Mexican government on the issue of enforced disappearance and the president asked for evidence: “After the UN came, the President said that he would abide by their recommendations if they showed him evidence, well, we are the evidence that he asked for from them”, says Viviana Mendoza, sister of Manuel Ojeda, who disappeared two years ago.

At the same time, AMLO offered, as every morning, his press conference at the National Palace facilities, however, the families denounced that he did not receive them personally. “On the part of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, it was a refusal, they only told us to leave our document and no one received us”, said Liliana Mendoza, a member of the ‘Until We Find You’ Collective.

It should be noted that last September, in the third Lopez Obrador government report, it was reported that between September 2020 and July 31, 2021, more than 6,000 people are still missing in the country and 546 have already been found dead. In the same period, more than 400 hidden graves with more than a thousand bodies were located, most of which remain unidentified by the authorities, nor have they been handed over to their families.

“And you, while you presume that everything is going well in your government, you have not had the decency to sit down and listen to the victims of the Mexican Republic. You knew the problem of disappearance, you know that it continues, and when you ran for this position you knew the problem that society was facing”, they shouted at the doors of the National Palace.
