Chiapas: State Congress Assigns Municipal Council for Pantelho

@El Heraldo de Chiapas

On December 16th, the State Congress unanimously approved the license request of the members of the town hall of the indigenous municipality of Pantelho, with which the municipal public power ceases and in view of this, the appropriate thing is the appointment of a Municipal Council that concludes the administration that began on October 1st of Raquel Trujillo Morales, removed from power in October and which should conclude on September 30th, 2024.

The legislature reported in a statement that the council will be chaired by Pedro Cortes Lopez as president; Sandra Gutierrez Cruz, as trustee and Diego Mendoza Cruz, Petrona Entzin Mendez and Antonio Jimenez Cortes as councilors.

It recalled that on November 9th, the State Congress removed the president of the constitutional city council, Raquel Trujillo Morales, from office at the request of the State Attorney General’s Office, which accuses him of the crime of homicide. Pedro Cortes Lopez was elected president of the municipal council through the system of uses and customs on August 9th after the emergence of the group, which defines itself as, ” El Machete Self-defense Groups of the People.” Theoretically, he concluded his duties on September 30th, but continued to govern de facto, because they did not want to let Raquel Trujillo Morales enter power by linking him to organized crime in this municipality.

The statement indicated that the members of the council requested their definitive license: Pablo Cruz Hernandez, Micaela Lopez Meza, Juan Cruz Juarez and Diego Gomez Perez, first, second, third, and fifth proprietor councilors.

It stated that “before this, the citizens who by constitutional mandate would have to assume the positions: Elizabeth Gomez Cruz, first general substitute; Gilberto Perez Hernandez, second general alternate, and Lucia Giron Jimenez, third general alternate, filed a letter before this popular sovereignty in which they argued not to accept, nor assume, the positions of proprietary councilors in the city council, as a measure that guarantees peace and social stability of the area, so given the cessation of powers, it was determined to appoint the Municipal Council.”
