Through an Urgent Action, the Fray Bartolome de Las Casas Rights Center (Frayba) denounced the acts of violence that continue against the Zapatista community of Nuevo San Gregorio. These acts have been documented by the Civil Observation Brigades (BriCO) installed in this community of the Autonomous Rebel Zapatista Lucio Cabañas municipality. They denounced that “the increase in violence (…) puts the life, safety and personal integrity of six BAEZLN families at risk.”
The dispossession of their territory, the division of their last fields, the verbal attacks and the constant vigilance, the death of cattle that belonged to the Zapatista families, as well as the destruction of production spaces have repercussions in economic losses for the Support Bases; which makes it difficult to plant crops and therefore provide a nutritious, sufficient and quality diet. This makes access to water and education deficient for Zapatista boys, girls and boys.
The BriCOs also reported the presence of a Tsuru-type vehicle with a sticker of the Coordinator of Organizations for the Environment for a Better Chiapas (COMACH).
“To the above is added the indifference of the Mexican State to implement an effective action to deactivate the violence, this in the face of the interventions that this Fray Bartolome de Las Casas Human Rights Center has carried out due to the risk to life, food security, security and personal integrity of the Support Bases, defenders and caretakers of their territory”, said Frayba.
