Guerrero/National: AMLO Meets Relatives of Ayotzinapa 43

On the morning of August 18^th, relatives of the 43 student teachers from the Ayotzinapa Normal Rural School, who disappeared in Iguala on September 26^th and 27^th, 2014, arrived at the National Palace, accompanied by their lawyer Vidulfo Rosales, with the aim of learning about the progress of the investigation that would be presented by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

Also present were General Luis Cresencio Sandoval, Secretary of National Defense, Admiral Rafael Ojeda Duran, head of the Navy, the head of the Interior, Adan Augusto Lopez Hernandez, Alejandro Encinas, Undersecretary of Human Rights and Omar Gomez Trejo, head of the Special Investigation and Litigation Unit.

After the press conference given by Alejandro Encinas, who pointed out that there are no signs of the young people, the families with pain and uncertainty met to talk carefully and assess the information that was presented and then give their position, accompanied by the organizations of human rights and the IGIE.

According to the La Montaña Tlachinollan Human Rights Center, “Mothers and fathers no longer trust each other. That trust has been growing because in the course of the investigation elements have been emerging that implicate the Mexican army and the parents have been demanding that the army clarify this situation, that it render accounts, make transparent its actions on September 26, in the facts of Ayotzinapa, and that all the information they have is made available to the authorities. To this day that has not been happening.”

Finally, the fathers and mothers made a call to the Mexican people, to social organizations, to raise their voices so that there is truth in the Ayotzinapa case. They also announced a series of protests from September 12^th to 27^th in commemoration of the eighth anniversaruy of the disappearance of their children.
