Oaxaca: Trial of Former President of Nochixtlan in Uruchurtu Case Postponed

For the second time, the trial against the former president of Nochixtlan, Lizbeth V.H., and another woman for the disappearance of the activist Claudia Uruchurtu was postponed, supposedly because the Oaxaca Public Security Secretariat did not have sufficient members or patrols to carry out the transfer of the two people accused in the case to the courts.

The relatives of Claudia Uruchurtu denounced that this shows a suspicious attitude on the part of Judge Maria Teresa Quevedo and the Government of Oaxaca by delaying the ruling. Before being disappeared on Friday, March 26^th, 2021, Claudia Uruchurtu documented and denounced irregularities in the management of the government’s finances of former municipal president Lizbeth Victoria Huerta, who at that time was seeking re-election for the MORENA party.

At the beginning of May 2021, the then municipal president was arrested as the probable mastermind of her disappearance, as well as two other collaborators from the municipality. In July 2021, other people who worked in the municipality of Nochixtlan were arrested and also brought to trial. Claudia Uruchurtu had spent four years denouncing the corrupt practices of the MORENA government. To date, she is still missing.
