Third International Forum for the Defense of Human Rights in Oaxaca.

From April 20 to 27, 2007, SIPAZ made a visit to Oaxaca. On the 20th and 21st, we participated in the Third International Forum for the Defense of Human Rights in Oaxaca, which was held in the Faculty of Law. Several people shared testimonies of police abuse and human rights violations: arbitrary detentions, torture, etc. Two of the best-known cases were related by David Venegas’ brother and Flavio Sosa’s daughter.

Also, a Popular Jury was formed in order to compile evidence and testimonies that would lead to a “just and viable resolution”. The Jury considered itself a “citizens’ council”, legitimate to participate in the country’s political affairs. They will play an “ethical, political and moral” role. The final resolution can be read (in Spanish) here.
