Oaxaca: The CCIODH denounces the impunity two years after the entrance of the PFP into Oaxaca

Two years since the operation carried out by the Federal Preventative Police (PFP) and the local police forces against the popular magisterial movement in Oaxaca, the Civil International Commission for the Observation of Human Rights (Comisión Civil Internacional de Observación por los Derechos Humanos, CCIODH) denounced in its latest press release that the situation of impunity “has maintained the same levels” with respect to “the real designers and intellectuals behind the grave violations that occurred”. The Commission stated that the conflict has resulted in a death toll of 23 individuals in addition to the detention of more than 450 people, as well as generating “a large number of denunciations for crimes of torture, cruel and degrading punishments, forced disappearances, as well as illegal imprisonment spanning from May to November of 2006”.

The CCIODH also stated that the lack of protection for the victims is “obvious.” They emphasized the current investigation into the killing of US journalist Bradley Will, and in general the conditions which journalists and local radio stations in the state are confronted with.
