On April 27, an Urgent Action was released by various organizations of Oaxaca, following up on the case of Marcelino Coache Verano, member of the APPO, who was kidnapped and tortured on March 4. The recent events which necessitated an Urgent Action took place on April 25. It involves telephone hostilities and death threats against the wife of Marcelino Coache as well as the lawyers defending his case: Alba Cruz Ramos of the Comité 25 de noviembre, Yesica Sánchez Maya of Consorcio, and Beatriz Casasa Arellanes of Barcadh, as well as Father Romualdo Francisco Mayrén Peláez (Father Uvi) who was also following the case.

According to the Urgent Action: “these events are hindering the work of defense and promotion of human rights of the human rights defenders, recognized as a fundamental right in the Declaration on the Right and Responsibility of Individuals, Groups and Organs of Society to Promote and Protect Universally Recognized Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, approved by the United Nations on December 9, 1998. Because of this, we blame the Governor Ulises Ruiz Ortiz, the State Attorney General Evencio Nicolás Martínez Ramírez, and the Secretary of Public Security Javier Rueda Velazquez for any aggression, physical, moral, or psychological attack on our companions who are at risk”.
