On March 12th, at 6:30 in the morning, an armed group entered the community of La Piedad in the municipality of Pantelho. The residents repelled the attack and one of the attackers died. A 10-year-old boy and a 17-year-old teenager were shot to death in this attack. Two other minors and an adult were injured.
The residents indicated that the attack was carried out by an armed group linked to “Los Herrera”, who were allied with another group that operates from the community of Tzanembolom, in the neighboring municipality of Chenalhó. The attacked residents are connected with the municipal government of Pantelho, which has been controlled until now by the armed group Los Machetes.
The same day, the Chiapas Prosecutor’s Office linked Daily Herrera, from Los Herrera family, to the case for qualified homicide, as probable responsible for seven murders committed in that municipality. This person was arrested in October 2021.
