Oaxaca: 24 Women Murdered to Date in 2024

@GESMujer

According to data collected by the Women’s Studies Group “Rosario Castellanos” (GESMujer), from December 1st, 2022 to April 5th, 2024, dates that coincide with the mandate of Governor Salomon Jara Cruz, 133 women have been murdered violently in Oaxaca during his government.

So far in 2024, their data indicates that there were 24 cases. The majority of murders have been recorded in municipalities of the Central Valleys region with 29% of the total. They are followed by the municipalities of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region (20%); from the Mixteca (17%) and the Coast (14%).

These alarming figures are not limited only to the capital and urban areas of Oaxaca, but also derive from indigenous communities and municipalities where machismo is endemic and access to justice for female victims is limited,” according to GESMujer. It ratified its commitment to “inform the population about this problem, we are sowing the seeds of the fight and resistance against gender violence.”
