Chiapas: Aggression against human-rights defender and member of the Fray Pedro Lorenzo de la Nada Commission of Ocosingo

The Human Rights Commission “Fray Pedro Lorenzo de la Nada” and Services and Assessment for Peace (Serapaz) denounced that, on 1 September, Manuel Hernández Pérez, human-rights promoter from “Fray Pedro Lorenzo de la Nada” A.C., from the region of Agua Azul, was attacked while en route to his home in the community of Santa Cruz, municipality of Ocosingo.  The denunciation stresses that “in light of the death-threats and verbal aggressions [in the case] we hold that the attack finds its basis in his work for the defense of human-rights and indigenous peoples.”
