Chiapas: Checkpoints Installed by Armed Groups Control Entrance to Chicomuselo

On August 9th, residents of the municipalities of Frontera Comalapa and Chicomuselo reported that since July 30th, a group of armed men have maintained a checkpoint at the entrance to the municipal center of Chicomuselo.

They mentioned that these people check the belongings of all those who enter or leave that town and demand to see their cell phones, identifications and, if the person does not live in the municipality, they ask them to detail the reason for their visit and inform who they will meet with and later they follow and surveil them during their stay.

In addition to the checkpoints, it has been reported that the armed groups maintain patrols on the route that leads to the municipalities of Motozintla, Mazapa de Madera, Amatenango de la Frontera and Frontera Comalapa.
