Chiapas:150 Members of Army and National Guard Deployed on Border with Guatemala

The operation called ‘Regional Task Force’ was sent to the area, including the municipalities Suchiate, Frontera Hidalgo and Metapa Domínguez, due to recent violent incidents, such as the murder of at least five people in municipalities on the border with Guatemala in recent days, allegedly related to organized crime activities, La Jornada reported.

Military sources insisted that the deployment is not related to the migratory flow through the Suchiate River. Last week a caravan of about a thousand migrants arrived through Suchiate and left for Tapachula.
