Chiapas: 30th Anniversary of Zapatista Uprising Celebrated in Dolores Hidalgo

Long live the common! was the slogan with which ended the official speech of the 30th anniversary of the EZLN held from December 30^th to January 2^nd in the “Resistance and Rebellion: A New Horizon” in Dolores Hidalgo Caracol, municipality of Ocosingo, ended.

Thousands of attendees, including groups and organizations, both national and international, journalists, media, militia, support bases, adherents and guests were part of the celebration in which cultural days were held with plays, dances and music, organized by the Zapatista youth and children through whom they recreated the history of their autonomy, the violence of the current context and criticism of the system and bad government.

On the night of December 31^st, Sub-commander Moises began with his speech which he gave almost entirely in Tseltal. In it he made reference to the thousands of missing, murdered and political prisoners in Mexico as well as those who have lost their lives in the struggle. He spoke about his commitment to communality “Property must belong to the people and be common,” and invited to continue fighting against the system “Let’s organize ourselves in each geography and everyone with its calendar. Because no one is going to fight where you all live… Capitalism cannot be humanized. Capitalism is not going to say I give up on exploiting.“ “The people have to govern themselves.“ “We are the people, women and men who are going to follow that path of resistance and we are going to defend ourselves“, he reaffirmed.
