Chiapas: Over A Thousand Members of Security Forces Deployed in “Operation Safe Chiapas”

On March 8th, more than a thousand soldiers, members of the National Guard and state security police began to deploy in support of “Operation Safe Chiapas.” Immediately, they will focus their efforts on the Central and Frailesca regions “with the objective of guaranteeing governability, peace and security of the state.” It was reported that they will carry out radio reconnaissance actions and establish control and security posts in both regions. “Through “Operation Safe Chiapas”, we seek not only to combat crime, but also to generate an environment of trust and tranquility in the population,” said the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSyPC).

During the first day of the Operation, federal and state security forces detained two alleged criminals, searched a property and seized weapons and vehicles in the municipality of Ocozocoautla, official sources reported. They added that two members of criminal groups were killed and two National Guard agents were wounded by gunshots, for which they were taken to a hospital.
