On August 10th, the Abejas and the Fray Bartolome de Las Casas Human Rights Center held a press conference to mark the beginning of the “Day of Action for Justice and Truth,” to be held in San Cristobal August 10th and 11th.
In a prepared statement, the Abejas outlined their position with regards to the possible action of the Supreme Court of Mexico to grant an appeal to prisoner’s accused of perpetrating the Acteal massacre in December 1997. Also present were survivors of the massacre who said, “if they free the paramilitaries, they’ll come back to kill us.”
The decision the Supreme Court is about to take has generated a large amount of reaction, which is reflected in various media reports.
