Oaxaca/Chiapas: meeting among governors in Governance regarding Chimalapas case

(@Chiapas state-government)

On 8 May, the governors of Chiapas (Juan Sabines Guerrero) and of Oaxaca (Gabino Cué Monteagudo) met with the Subsecretary of Government from the Ministry for Governance, Obdulio Ávila Mayo, to discuss the situation that prevails in the area between both sides.  It should be remembered that this conflict flared up once again on 2 April when the Supreme Court for Justice in the Nation (SCJN) decided to deny the motions submitted by the state of Oaxaca and the municipalities of Santa María and San Miguel Chimalapas regarding the creation of a new municipality in Chiapas, Belisario Domínguez, in the Chimalapas region.

The Subsecretary of Government invited governors to find an amicable solution to the problem, suggesting that, if they failed to come to an agreement, they could appeal to the SCJN to resolve the issue definitively once the appropriate constitutional reforms are passed.

The governors accepted the proposal and soon will discuss the conditions to install a work table to analyze the case
