On 21 August, Juan Domingo Pérez Castillo, founder of the Movement for Triqui Unity and Struggle (MULT) was attacked with firearms by an unknown subject in downtown Oaxaca de Juárez.  In accordance with journalistic reports, the assault took place at 9am outside the Heriberto Pazos Ortiz House of Culture of the Triqui nation, while Pérez Castillo was en route to the Sánchez Pascua market.  The victim was attended to by the Red Cross and transferred to a hostel in the Oaxacan capital.  These same media report that his health status is in question.  They also reported that MULT members carried out a march from the clinic to the Zócalo of the city, where they installed a sit-in to demand the arrest and punishment of those responsible.  Emelia Ortiz García, political niece of the victim, did not deny that the aggression may have originated from organizations opposed to MULT.  Meanwhile, the Defense Organization for Human Rights of the Oaxacan People authorized precautionary measures in favor of Juan Domingo Pérez and 12 of his relatives, by means of which the state police has been instructed to provide them with the necessary security measures to protect life and integrity.
