Chiapas: Forced Disappearances Continue in Chamic-Frontera Comalapa

@Proceso

On March 22nd, a group of seven peasants, some of them ejido authorities, left the Nueva Libertad ejido in Frontera Comalapa for Palenque. On Thursday the 23rd, relatives reported that they no longer had contact with them and they did not arrive at their destination, so they reported the disappearance.

Axel Yibran Martinez Perez, 22, Jordan Gordillo Genovez, 48, Yovani Vazquez Mendez, 43, Hernan Aguilar Morales, 57, Jose Marin Carbajal Ramirez, 43, Raymundo Sandoval Cordova, 51, and Luis Ambrocio Gonzalez Leon, 53, were traveling in a Red Dodge Ram truck with DC3614A plates from the state of Chiapas. Five of them are from Frontera Comalapa, one from La Trinitaria and another from Chicomuselo.

The families of the seven campesinos suspect that they may have been detained and disappeared by armed civilian groups that for almost two years have been fighting over the territory in the section known as the “Death Zone” in Chamic, between Frontera Comalapa and La Trinitaria.

In the last two years, this border area of the state of Chiapas has been embroiled in clashes between rival organized crime groups, resulting in the displacement, disappearance and murder of hundreds of people.
