Chiapas: 16 Workers from Secretary for Security and Citizen Protection Released

On the morning of June 30th, a march was held in Tuxtla Gutierrez to demand the release of the 16 workers of the State Secretariat for Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) who were kidnapped by an armed group on Tuesday, June 27th on the Ocozocoautla -Tuxtla Gutierrez highway section.

That same day, the SSPC of the state of Chiapas reported that, in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of the Navy, the National Guard, and federal and state prosecutors, they located of the 16 people safe and sound.

The workers arrived walking and hugging, to the sit-in held by their relatives in front of the Secretary of Security. The workers were taken to a hospital for medical and psychological care.

In a statement, the SSPC explained that, “as a result of the operations carried out by federal and state forces, a strong security cordon was implemented that allowed the release of the 16 colleagues deprived of liberty.” It reiterated that it will collaborate with the investigating authorities to clarify the facts, “in order to locate those responsible for this criminal conduct, with the policy of zero tolerance and zero impunity.”
