During the morning of 6 June, the home of Mario Hernández Martínez, a human-rights defender, was harassed.  According to a public denunciation released by the Bartolomé Carrasco Briseño Center for Human Rights (BARCA-DH), “cash, cards, and a laptop were stolen, with this last containing important information, from the home of teacher Mario Hernández Martínez.  This act has already been denounced before the State Attorney General’s Office of Oaxaca.”  Stressing the experience of Hernández Martínez, BARCA-DH expressed that “we are concerned and alarmed by the robbery that has been committed in his home, because there are antecedents of intimidation against him, such asthe death-threats received by cell-phone in April of this year.”  The Oaxacan human-rights organization requests that the PGJE clarify the acts, requesting furthermore that the state’s legislative and executive branches “revise the recent approval at the federal level of the Mechanisms of Protection for Journalists and Human-Rights  Defenders, so as to advance a concrete proposal in these terms and so guarantee and protect those who carry out this important and necessary work in our state.”
