Chiapas: Platform for Peace announces “10 days for peace”

On 12 September in a press conference held in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, the Platform for Peace with Justice and Dignity of Chiapas announced the beginning of a ten-day event in favor of peace.  The International and National event “Ten days for peace and human rights” was launched by the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity (MPJD), to be carried out from 12 to 21 September of this year, the 21st being the International Day for Peace.

The Platform for Peace noted in a pronunciation that “We refuse to accept the results of the presidential election and the failure of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation.  To accept this would be to validate the legality of lies, fraud, corruption, violence, and to give support so that these criteria be adopted by those who have the force of power and money […].  For all of these reasons we will continue on the path of building peace with justice and dignity by peaceful means, and by peaceful civil disobedience when the need for this should arise.”

During the conference, the Platform also announced a series of activities to be carried out in the coming days, such as the forum against mining in Chicomuselo on 15 September and the forum to be held on 22 September that seeks to “review the results obtained in these 10 days of action at the state and national levels, such that we can reflect theoretically and politically on what the struggle for the construction of peace means.”
