Chiapas/National: Red TDT Denounces Defamation against Digna Ochoa Human Rights Center

On October 23rd, the National Network of Civil Human Rights Organizations “All Rights for All” (TDT Network), composed of 87 organizations in 23 states, publicly denounced that defamatory information has been circulating on social networks that intends to delegitimize the Digna Ochoa Human Rights Center, located in Tonala, Costa de Chiapas, as well as its director, Nataniel Hernandez Nuñez.

It said that the question arises from the opposition of said center to the implementation of a megaproject of the Bachoco company (a chicken farm) within the municipality, for about five months due to the growing health problems in the population, which affect particularly the communities of La Central, Lazaro Cardenas, Santa Virginiana, La Conquista, El Fortin and El Diamante. This is also for wanting to stop the development that Bachoco, or the construction of the Palenque-Pijijiapan highway, would supposedly bring to these communities.

The organizations rejected the harassment and threats, and reported that this situation was brought to the attention of the Protection Mechanism for Defenders and Journalists of the Ministry of the Interior to take the necessary measures to ensure that the Digna Ochoa HRC can continue its work.
