On 5 February ended the 7-day fast that had been carried out by prisoners who belong to la Voz del Amate and those in solidarity with them, who are being help in prison nº5 in San Cristóbal de las Casas. The goals of the fast were to denounce the injustices to which they have been subjected, given that “our liberties were restored only through great physical and psychological torture, and by signing blank documents under the threat of self-incrimination having to do with multiple farbricated crimes. This is done to as to avoid more investigations of those who are truly responsible for the crime,” as they have publicly stated in their latest communique. At the same time, they have demanded that the Chiapas state-government grant them liberty, closing the document with these words: we have the goal “of always demonstrating our innocence, and at the same time we demand that Governor Manuel Velasco Coello release us immediately and unconditionally, given these injustices.”
