Guerrero: Four Nahua Indigenous, Members of CIPOG-EZ, Murdered

On December 20th, the Indigenous and Popular Council of Guerrero – Emiliano Zapata (CIPOG-EZ) and the Peasant Organization of the Sierra del Sur (OCSS) announced that four Nahua indigenous people who belong to said organizations were murdered on the federal Chilapa-Tlapa highway the previous day.

In a statement, they reported that the victims are Maria Agustin Chino, Amalia Morales Guapango, Jose Benito Migueleño and Miguel Migueleño, all Nahua indigenous from the Alcozacan community, Chilapa de Alvarez municipality. They had disappeared on December 18th. Their bodies were found in their own truck with signs of torture. “They were tortured, their hands were tied and they were given the so-called “coup de grace””, they reported in the statement.

They recalled that just one month has passed since “we broke the narco-paramilitary siege, on November 18th, thousands of Nahua indigenous people have regained mobility in our territory. Twenty-two communities surrounded by the narco-paramilitary group “Los Ardillos” decided to say ¡Enough is enough! because what we are living is not life.”

They denounced that the Undersecretary of Human Rights, Population and Migration, Alejandro Encinas “only came to sow division and buy consciences, precisely in Alcozacan where on January 17th, 2020, ten colleagues were killed in that massacre. And now far from reaching justice, they only send us more death, and send us their signs of war.” In addition, they held the three levels of government responsible for the murders; “To the Municipal government of Chilapa de Alvarez led by Jesus Parra Garcia of the PRI, to the State government of Hector Astudillo Flores of the PRI, to the presidency of the republic led by Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of MORENA. The three levels of government know perfectly well what is happening in Chilapa, but they have their negotiations instead of ending organized crime.”
