Chiapas: Harassment of CIDECI-Universidad de la Tierra

The Indigenous Center for Comprehensive Training-Universidad de la Tierra Chiapas (CIDECI-Unitierra Chiapas) has made public the harassments it suffered on the part of workers associated with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and the judicial branch in recent days.

On 11 June 2012 at around 12_30pm, a magistrate accompanied by two officials from the CFE arrived outside the CIDECI.  They requested to be attended at CIDECI so as to carry out a verification of the campus.  Members of CIDECI refused them entry.

The denunciation details that “The following day, Tuesday 12 June at around 2:30pm, newly the same persons presented themselves and, upon being deneid entry once again, they left documents at the door.  These documents refer to two cases, 585/2012 y 586/2012. In them, the judicial officials Lic. Ma. del Carmen González Flores and Lic. Víctor Hugo Rodríguez García address these papers to ‘a worker of this civil association.’  Regardless, this information is false and harmful, given that the name to which they allude does not correspond to any member of the CIDECI community, and at no moment did they ever receive a document from any CIDECI member.”

It should be mentioned that CIDECI has no electrical connection with the CFE, and so its installation functions by generating its own electricity.  Beyond this, several events have been held at CIDECI recently, including the Meeting “Alternatives in light of State violence,” the forum “Exclusion… Inclusion neoliberal,” addressing the Sustainable Rural Cities, and the forum “Against political prison and for the freedom of Alberto Patishtán,” all events “that have attracted the attention of the mechanisms of repression that the different governmental levels exercise against the organized peoples of Chiapas,” says the denunciation.
