Chiapas: Mothers Seeking Justice for Femicides and Disappearances Hold Sit-in in Tuxtla

Since May 18th, mothers of women who have been murdered and disappeared in the state of Chiapas, set up a sit-in in front of the government palace in the capital Tuxtla Gutierrez, demanding justice and truth for what happened to their daughters.

Adriana Gomez Martinez, Maricruz Velasco Najera, Flor Emilia Alcazar Coutiño and Maria Isabel Torres Aquino, who were accompanied by Irinea Buendia Cortez, affirmed that there was negligence on the part of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), in the investigations of the cases of their daughters, in addition to the injustice and corruption that has not allowed the aggressors to be captured and sentenced.

We will remain on the sit-in until we are received, seen to, heard, and an investigative work plan is carried out for each of our causes. Enough of simulations, for us and for all, justice and justice for all. We call on families to unite to demand our right without anyone representing us and to form a true network of independent and autonomous families”, said Adriana Gomez, mother of Jade Guadalupe Yuing Gomez, victim of femicide.

Finally, they said that they will not lift the sit-in until they are seen to by the governor of the state, Rutilio Escandon, because they have exhausted all legal resources without making progress in the investigations.
