National: 10 June, day of mobilizations throughout the country against the PRI presidential candidate and for democracy

On 10 June, thousands of persons took to the streets in at least 18 Mexican cities, including the principal capitals and others, to demand more democracy and to pronounce themselves in opposition to Enrique Peña Nieto, PRI candidate for the presidency of the Republic.  Organized by the movement #IAm132, the movement coincided also with the commemoration of 41 years since the massacre perpetrated against the Jueves de Corpus in 1971, a date in which student movements were violently repressed by a State-affiliated group called “The Hawks.”  The protests also transcended borders: activities in solidarity with the student movement were also seen in Chicago and Spain.

In Chiapas, marches were carried out in the principal cities of the state.  In San Cristóbal de Las Casas (see photos), the march included more than 400 dissidents.  At the meeting there was announced a call for the first assembly of the southeast for #IAm132, which is planned for 23 June in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, oriented toward establishing lines of action in the short term in the context of the electoral process, and in more long-term regards the strengthening and consolidation of the movement, following elections on 1 July.
