Chiapas: Ejidatarios march in Tila and Mexico City

On 1 August, residents of Tila, Chiapas, manifested themselves simultaneously in Mexico City and in this municipal center to demand that the justices of the Supreme Court of Justice in the Nation (SCJN) give a sentence similar to the one that in 2008 favored the Ch’ol people, one that the state and municipal governments have not observed to date. In Mexico City, the ejidatarios marched from the Monument to the Revolution to the SCJN to demand that 130 hectares of land be returned to them, these having been expropriated for more than 30 years for private use. Following a brief press-conference organized by the Revolution Camp #132, the contingent left for the SCJN, where they held a rally. Later, the ejidatarios and those accompanying them installed a camp to await the sentence of the court, on 2 August. At the same time, 6000 people marched in Tila, northern Chiapas, where they carried out a rally and installed a sit-in in front of the ejidal commissioner, as reported by Rubén Constantino Moreno, from the Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Center for Human Rights.
