On 15 August there were published two communiques from Zapatista Good-Government Councils (JBGs). For one, the Morelia JBG denounced that on 2 August Zapatista support-bases in the Moisés Gandhi ejido, Che Guevara region, autonomous municipality of Lucio Cabañas, were violently attacked by 20 members of ORCAO (Regional Organization of Coffeegrowers of Ocosingo) while working their land. The communiqué indicates that the aggressors were armed with firearms and bludgeoning weapons, and that they fired 15 times against the Zapatistas, thus threatening them and telling them that the land was theirs. The JBG added that on 6 August the ORCAO militants entered once again to attack the support bases, surrounding them and firing on them with firearms of different calibers, and spraying part of the collective water resource. Finally, the JBG noted that on 8 August these same persons arrived once again to intimidate the Zapatista supporters, “who at no time responded to these provocations, instead continuing work on their lands.” The JBG mentioned that “this situation also occurred in the San Diego community, Che Guevara region, on 26 July, when ORCAO members entered to spray the Zapatistas’ pasture.”
On the other hand, the La Realidad JBG denounced the provocations suffered by Zapatista support bases at the hands of persons from Veracruz, San Carlos ejido, official municipality of Las Margaritas, “under the protection of the bad government and the PVEM and PRD parties.” In this place the Zapatistas have maintained a goods store and coffee exchange as run by autonomous municipalities in the area. As the communiqué explains, the aggressors carried out different provocations toward the end of ruining the Zapatistas’ store, thus showing that they would like to take it so as to obtain two governmental projects. On 6 August, 45 persons went to the store and there placed wire around it, thus blocking the entrance and demanding that the Zapatistas hand over the establishment, verbally attacking them. The communiqué denounced that on 11 August, these same persons cut the electricity of the store and a home belonging to Zapatistas.
