Chiapas: La Garrucha JBG denounces arrest-order against support-base over opening of collective artisan shop in Tonina

In a communique released on 9 December, the “Toward a New Dawn” Good-Government Council (JBG) based in La Garrucha denounced that the “comrade support base Alfonso Cruz Espinosa from the community of San Antonio Tonina, autonomous Zapatista rebel municipality of Francisco Gómez, faces an arrest-order against his person.”  The JBG explained that this act has to do with the construction of a collective artisan shop erected on recuperated lands that are located just outside the archaeological site of Toniná. In this same document, the JBG denounced on the other hand that the present mayor of Ocosingo is “destroying Mayan tombs for the construction of a bridge that would benefit the former mayor, Arturo Suñiga, and other ranchers in the area.  So we ask ourselves, is this not a crime, to destroy the patrimony of the nation?”
