Chiapas: Zapatista Support Bases Coffee Warehouses Burned in Cuxulja

@Heraldo de Chiapas

On the morning of August 22nd, two coffee warehouses of support bases of the Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN) were burned in the Moises Gandhi community located at the Cuxulja crossroads, in the Ocosingo municipality, presumably by a group of members of the Regional Organization of Coffee Growers of Ocosingo (ORCAO) who live in the municipality of Oxchuc. This is supposedly due to the dispute between both organizations over land recovered in 1994.

No injuries were reported and the fire was contained before it reached other homes.

According to the Cuarto Poder, these events could be because “members of the ORCAO organization wanted to take revenge for the last shooting confrontation that occurred in April between these two groups, which left several people injured and houses damaged.”
