Chiapas: Denunciation of harassment of CIDECI-Unitierra by the military

On 21 September, the Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Center for Human Rights (CDHFBC) published a bulletin reporting on new acts of harassment carried out by units of the Mexican Army against the Indigenous Center for Comprehensive Training, University of the Earth Chiapas (CIDECI-Unitierra) during the days of 17 and 19 September of this year.  The CDHFBC indicates in this same bulletin that CIDECI-Uniterra has been harassed by the Mexican government on other occasions in the past.  In the denunciation of the harassment that occurred last June, the CDHFBC had stressed that on the CIDECI campus various events had been held “which visibilize the mechanisms of repression that the different levels of the government exercise against the organized peoples of Chiapas.”

In light of this situation, the CDHFBC has manifested its concern for the acts that have taken place, and it demands that the Mexican State cease these acts of harassment against this education center that has as its task the construction of alternatives for well-being, cultural diversity, and autonomy.
